Escrotten III is a 1988 Ford EXP. This car had been sitting in a field for 2 or more years when my brother found it. Surprisingly once we found the keys + threw in a battery it started right up and we drove it on the trailer. Ran most of the 2001 season and all of 2002 finishing 10th and 5th in points respectively.
2003 got off to a slow start. I missed the first race, got there right as my competetors were taking to the track and dropped out early in the next race when the suspension let loose. Everything came together in the third race on July 29, 2003 and I FINALLY scored my first feature win. Also won a heat race in 2003 too. Had a number of 2nd place finishes and top fives. Finished 7th in points. In 2003 I also ventured to other tracks. Made a trip to Wall Speedway in Wall Township, NJ with NEETS and scored a 3rd place finish. Also made two trips to Mountain Speedway in St. Johns, Pa also with NEETS. Didn't have too much luck there. The first trip had engine problems and limped to a 6th place finish and the second time had a DNF due to a nasty collision with the turn 1-2 wall. I ended up taking it to a body shop and $150, a case of Heineken, and a few hours on the frame rack she was race ready again. I ran it in an open comp race in Nov to see if it would still be good enough for 2004. Scored a 4th place finish against some stiff competition so decided she'd race again in '04!
2004 was by far Escrotten III's best season though she had lost a step (about .2 secs) after the wreck at Mountain the previous year. Scored another feature win on May 29, 2004 and also a heat win. We even went back to Mountain 1 race and on crappy tires finally scored a respectable 2nd place finish there. I finished in the top 4 every race except for one. I got caught up in a wreck early on and dropped out of the race and finished 16th. This was Escrotten III's final race. I tried taking it back to the frame shop but they said it was too bad and didn't want to touch it. The frame bent so bad the motor mounts ripped away. I had to run the last race of the season in my brother's Mustang. In 2004 I was in the point lead for most of the season and had a slim lead going into the race but ended up losing the championship by 1 point. All I had to do was pass 1 more car. I'd like to think if I had Escrotten III we would have pulled it off but who knows. It took me a long time to bring myself to start stripping her down but eventually did and June 27th, 2005 was a very very sad day when she took her last ride on the trailer to the scrap yard.
